socks, socks, socks.

finished my first pair of socks--wasn't too impressed so i donated them to my sister :) her feet were cold
i am trying again with my brother's socks that i'm making for his birthday--his birthday is next friday (oct. 3rd) i think i might have to finish one and see how it fits him and then go from there.
i should start a holiday stocking for travis soon enough and pick up my sockdown socks again. i've restarted jaywalkers so many times and i'm thinking of doing a gauge swatch because it is discouraging. without my needle gauge thingy it makes it hard to be sure of some of my DPN sizes.
i am also doing a quick cowl out of debbie bliss cashmerino in a soft yellow color its great mindless seed stitch--i love seed stitch!!! its so pretty. can't wait to wear it when the weather is cold. anyways that is all for now : )

sockdown begins.

i'm finishing my practice socks before the YEAR OF THE SOCK begins. i'm finishing the toe on the second one now getting ready to graft both toes or give up if i can't do it and just bind off. i'm soooo excited the second sock FLEW by and i've been noticing a lot of people say the same thing.

now my first sock on sockdown '08-'09 is a JAYWALKER (my first!) and its in knitpicks pumpkin GLOSS that i used while making Thermal (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTthermal.html)
but then i realized i'm not a sweater knitter...never finished it.
the socks are 70% merino and 30% silk may not be durable but TOTALLY SOFT! they meet the 70% orange requirement and i'm actually reallly excited about them.

pictures of my socks finished will be posted ASAP and the beginnings of jaywalkers in pumpkin will be coming as well : )

random rib goodness.

sugar-n-cream and a new puppy!

I am working more on dishcloths from sugar and cream i'll take some pics when i get a bunch of them! I am pausing on socks because stockinette is taking its toll on me...ahhh i wanna make the toe! I am so close and i'll buckle down and do it.
I am still awaiting my near yarn for sockdown! 08-09 and i CAN'T wait. I should try to finish my first socks before starting new ones but it'll be really really hard. Please leave suggestions for any neat socks for maybe a 20 years old brother of mine? I do DPN's for socks--haven't ventured into the magic loop method yet. I also do cuff down as well. I thinking of trying the random ribbed sock--so cool and simple!

I love the pictures of these socks and its a very cute idea.

knit picks order!

sockdown! 08-09
as of yesterday i'd never heard of sockdown! but it is a part of the ravelry group Sock Knitters Anonymous and the challenge is to knit a pair of socks a month for a year. i am very excited and purchased some yarn to make a bunch of socks : )
there is even a holiday stocking--i am overjoyyed. even though i don't have a whole pair of socks finished--i can tell i'm hooked.
i'm glad to find that there are sweater knitters and non-sweater knitters...i really always wondered why i had no desire to knits sweaters...although i'm sure that i will complete one someday its just not my thing. SOCKS are for sure becoming my thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First heel/gusset completion

me really loving lunch and sock knitting.

sock.

socks 101

as of this very moment i am turning the heel of my first knitted sock.

i am using the pattern from socks 101 (knitty.com) to create a 'custom' sock pattern for myself. i decided to use my trekking xxl yarn before diving into my recent purchase at Stitch DC (georgetown location) of Lorna's Laces shepherd sock yarn in the Envy colorway. i am really excited to finish my first pair--it has been surprisingly painless!!!
as it is still very hot outside the day when i can wear this lovely wool/nylon socks is heavily anticipated. i think i'm a officially a sock knitter.

fetching was smashing

Ash loved the really soft and equally stylish finglerless gloves I made her for her birthday last night. Handmade gift giving...there is nothing like it. We had a lovely eveing filled with tons of side splitting laughter and fresh strawberry shortcake!

a little roommate love.

nothing like french press coffee on a sunday morning.

i love waking up and drinking my awesome coffee on a lazy Sunday morning. i reserve french press coffee for weekends something about it makes me only want it when i can drink it at home--not in my car rushing to school.

i've been knitting a present for one of my best friends her birthday is the 29th of April. I am so proud that I actually thought this out and will hvae it totally finished for her birthday! this might be the first time ever.
i am also doing a bit of stash knitting with some thrift store old timey Wintuk (by red heart acrylic)not all that exciting but the color is great and the cables look pretty in it.

with the extra cashmerino from the first pair of 'fetching' i can't wait to make myself a pair. if you haven't tried these they are the fastest knit ever and just gorgeous. i'm in love.

starting to knit again.

i'm afriad i'm starting to knit again and that is the new reason for not doing school work on time. all i can ever think about is knitting--this is the reason for my somewhat non-existent knitting status. it feels so good to pick up needles again and tear out stitches until everything is just as it should be.
