babies babies everywhere
Hello Hello and Happy New Year!I am currently making some baby things for my co-worker and then moving on to my two sister-in-laws who are due in March and then in July. I also have a slew of friends pregnant from college so when I finish with family there are plenty of babies to knit for.
I will also be moving soon to Asheville, North Carolina. I have always loved visiting Asheville--it is the perfect combination of artsy and down to earth. The mountains are amazing and the people are funky. I hope we will be there for a long time. If I can't find a yarn shop that suits my needs I guess I will just have to open one up! That's all for now.
Happy Knitting

Lettuce for Janice

love this yarn, love this pattern--so far organized Christmas knitting is going well. since i know my mom doesn't even know about this blog it's okay to post this one!
recently, i have been attempting to switch over to continental knitting and this project is my first TOTALLY continental project since i first learned to knit. I (like EZ) learned to knit continental but was then lead astray and began solely using English style knitting. i have finally conquered the continental purl and feel very confident knitting. hopefully this will mean faster knitting and greater efficiency= less pain in my hands!
happy knitting!

IT'S A BOY!
contemplating baby boy blankets
i would much rather use some type of natural fiber but i really want to make this cheaply and very user friendly. this will be gifted to a non-knitter! any yarn suggestions?

texture for tae
i'm beginning the task of knitting a scarf for my co-worker. guys are harder to knit for in my opinion. i settled on entrelac for now. he wanted some texture and i like the woven look of entrelac. i also want to finish this scarf relatively soon-- and entrelac is just so enjoyable!
i just learned how to knit backwards through this video! if you hate purling like me check it out.
i am almost finished my sweater and i will take pictures of it when i'm finished. i can't wait to wear it at the new york sheep and wool festival in rhinebeck , ny! is anyone else going as well?

aviatrix and booties for addalyn

i'm not much for good photos. but i'd rather post progress than nothing.
i LOVE this little baby hat. it has all the essentials-- unique, easy, fast, functional and super stylish! i will definitely be making this lovely little knit for lots of baby friends. aviatrix is a great pattern.
exciting news for tomorrow thursday september 10th, 2009. i am teaching someone to knit for the first time. i have never wanted to teach someone that i thought wouldn't really want to carry on knitting. i think i would only get satisfaction if i saw that the person tried their best and kept knitting (i know kind of silly). i hope that she loves knitting once she gets it down! ps. she can already crochet--major plus!
wish me luck

iphone picture will have to do for these little beauties.
these were just a side project from my cardigan and scarf that i am currently commited to. i want to definitely finish the sweater to wear to rhinebeck s&w mid-october. i cannot wait to go see all the sites with my sister. i've never been to a sheep and wool festival and i am not going to buy hardly any yarn until then. is anyone out there going to rhinebeck as well? i hope to meet lots of knitters there. have a happy holiday weekend. i'll be at TJ's all weekend, including monday.
ta ta for now.

...little ripping
I am still super excited about my lovely sweater--I have ripped and taken a break for a few days. By adding more side shaping I am hoping to achieve the perfect fit! While talking to my sister I have decided on baby blue buttons for the chocolate and lime sweater...These are the current colors of my little living room. This will be the Chocolate and Lime sweater of South Columbus Street : )

Chocolate and Lime
I am currently obsessed with my first adult size sweater. I am knitting a raglan cardigan from Laura Chau's pattern (ravelry) and the yarn that I purchased from Fibre Space in Old Town Alexandria is AMAZING. For only $10 a skein I get to knit with gorgeous fine spun wool from Shepherd's Wool. Great soft, non-fuzzy, sturdy yarn. My sweater is going to be striped with Lime Green and Milk Chocolate. I am loving seamless knitting so far. I have found that I do not finish projects...I love to start them but never finish. Therefore, if I do not have to seam anything I may actually wear this wonderful sweater! Wish me luck!

new frontiers
Etsy...a wonderful world of handmade delicacies. I am going to join the list of many knitting sellers. Starting off simple with Organic Cotton Washcloths and maybe some baby booties.
Hope you come and visit me there as soon as I am set up!

socks, socks, socks.
finished my first pair of socks--wasn't too impressed so i donated them to my sister :) her feet were cold
i am trying again with my brother's socks that i'm making for his birthday--his birthday is next friday (oct. 3rd) i think i might have to finish one and see how it fits him and then go from there.
i should start a holiday stocking for travis soon enough and pick up my sockdown socks again. i've restarted jaywalkers so many times and i'm thinking of doing a gauge swatch because it is discouraging. without my needle gauge thingy it makes it hard to be sure of some of my DPN sizes.
i am also doing a quick cowl out of debbie bliss cashmerino in a soft yellow color its great mindless seed stitch--i love seed stitch!!! its so pretty. can't wait to wear it when the weather is cold. anyways that is all for now : )

sockdown begins.
i'm finishing my practice socks before the YEAR OF THE SOCK begins. i'm finishing the toe on the second one now getting ready to graft both toes or give up if i can't do it and just bind off. i'm soooo excited the second sock FLEW by and i've been noticing a lot of people say the same thing.
now my first sock on sockdown '08-'09 is a JAYWALKER (my first!) and its in knitpicks pumpkin GLOSS that i used while making Thermal (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTthermal.html)
but then i realized i'm not a sweater knitter...never finished it.
the socks are 70% merino and 30% silk may not be durable but TOTALLY SOFT! they meet the 70% orange requirement and i'm actually reallly excited about them.
pictures of my socks finished will be posted ASAP and the beginnings of jaywalkers in pumpkin will be coming as well : )

sugar-n-cream and a new puppy!
I am working more on dishcloths from sugar and cream i'll take some pics when i get a bunch of them! I am pausing on socks because stockinette is taking its toll on me...ahhh i wanna make the toe! I am so close and i'll buckle down and do it.
I am still awaiting my near yarn for sockdown! 08-09 and i CAN'T wait. I should try to finish my first socks before starting new ones but it'll be really really hard. Please leave suggestions for any neat socks for maybe a 20 years old brother of mine? I do DPN's for socks--haven't ventured into the magic loop method yet. I also do cuff down as well. I thinking of trying the random ribbed sock--so cool and simple!
I love the pictures of these socks and its a very cute idea.

sockdown! 08-09
as of yesterday i'd never heard of sockdown! but it is a part of the ravelry group Sock Knitters Anonymous and the challenge is to knit a pair of socks a month for a year. i am very excited and purchased some yarn to make a bunch of socks : )
there is even a holiday stocking--i am overjoyyed. even though i don't have a whole pair of socks finished--i can tell i'm hooked.
i'm glad to find that there are sweater knitters and non-sweater knitters...i really always wondered why i had no desire to knits sweaters...although i'm sure that i will complete one someday its just not my thing. SOCKS are for sure becoming my thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
